On June 13, Karen Wilson Smithbauer and Drs. Harris, Birkhill, Wang, Songe & Assoc. hosted the Women’s Health Care Classic (WHCC).  The event raised more than $300,000 to benefit women’s breast cancer programs at Beaumont Hospitals Dearborn, Trenton, Taylor and Wayne.  Approximately 225 guests attended with many golfing at one of two courses:  women-only at Dearborn Country Club; and both men and women at TPC Michigan.
In addition to golf, guests received golf tips from LPGA pro Sarah Burnham or golf pro Rick Smith, and enjoyed meals, cocktails and awards.
During the cocktail reception at the Dearborn Country Club, the Beaumont Health Foundation presented Jan and Jerry Fitzgerald with the Outstanding Philanthropy Award 2022 for their exceptional generosity and support of multiple health programs impacting the community.
Members of an honorary event committee were also recognized for their leadership and support that has helped to make the Women’s Health Care Classic a success over the years:
Co-chairs Donald Conn, MD and Karen Wilson Smithbauer; Katie Chambers, David Claeys, Donna Inch, Jan Fitzgerald, Mary Kosch, Thomas Lanni, Jennifer Martenson, Karen Mazo, Ron Moran, Bethany Parish, Robert Rosowski, Chastity Townsend, and Bob Zakar.
Throughout its 30-year history, the WHCC golf event has raised more than $7.6 million for hospital programs in Wayne County.  The funding has been used to support women’s healthcare services including breast care programs and purchasing the new diagnostic equipment such as the Invenia Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) unit.
