Food Notes

There’s a new dining option for ferry passengers at the Tsawwassen Quay Market building.
In addition to the usual, pizza, sandwiches, hot dogs, and Mexican food, there’s a new UpMeals smart-vending machine offering individually packaged healthy meals.
Unlike the other food outlets, which are only open during busy times, this refrigerated machine is available from early in the morning to late at night.
“The team at Quay Properties understood the market demand for a healthy solution that’s accessible 24/7,” UpMeals cofounder and CEO Drew Munro said in a news release. “We look forward to feeding thousands of customers at this busy terminal that’s only going to get busier as the travel season peaks. We anticipate strong demand with daily sell-outs as we are seeing with our current university installations.”
The Vancouver-based company reported significant revenue growth—up 61 percent in April over the same month in 2021.
In the last fourth quarter, UpMeals says its revenue was up 81 percent from the same quarter in the previous year.
