Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque has said that the introduction of health ID cards will help to ensure healthcare for all, especially for the marginalized sections of society.
While launching the distribution of individual health ID cards at Dhaka’s Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel on Sunday, the minister said: “Health ID cards are common in many developed countries. The introduction of such ID cards is another landmark initiative for the country’s healthcare system.”
He also said: “This [health ID card] will play a crucial role in delivering essential primary healthcare services at the grassroots level. People will get all primary healthcare services through this card.”
During the event organized by Community Based Health Care (CBHC) of the Health Directorate, he informed that the information stored in the card will be updated online on a regular basis to provide cardholders with easy access to community clinic-based government healthcare facilities.

"The health ID card will contain the medical records of an individual. Doctors will get access to this information quickly through computer software. This will allow them to provide treatment easily and swiftly,” the minister added.
He further said: “As many as 14,000 community clinics have been set up in different parts of the country. The marginalized people of the country are getting healthcare there. The community clinics are also providing Covid-19 services. Besides, these clinics offer at least 28 types of emergency medicines, free of cost.”
The data of each member of the community clinics will be collected and, based on that information, individual Health ID cards will be created and distributed to allow people to avail different healthcare facilities, not only from the community clinics but also from other healthcare centres and facilities all across the country.
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Director General (DG) Prof Dr ABM Khurshid Alam presided over the event.
