Annapolis, Md (June 21, 2022) – On Tuesday, June 21, the Anne Arundel County Department of Health will offer COVID-19 vaccines to children under 5 years. An independent panel of advisers to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention voted to recommend vaccinating all children in the age group with one of two separate COVID-19 vaccines manufactured by Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech.
The Anne Arundel County Department of Health is providing vaccines to pediatricians’ offices so that they can vaccinate the children they care for. “Young children and their parents are used to getting vaccines at their pediatrician’s office. That’s why we’ve partnered with them to make it easier for parents and children. For offices that need more help, we’ll provide staff to support COVID-19 vaccinations in their office and in partnership with those pediatricians,” said Dr. Tonii Gedin, Deputy Health Officer of Public Health at the Anne Arundel County Department of Health.
The Department of Health will also be vaccinating children under 5 years. Changes have been made to our vaccination sites to accommodate young children, infants, parents and guardians to make sure they are comfortable. Families can sign up at Anne Arundel Community College, the Parole Health Center in Annapolis, the Glen Burnie Health Center and Lula Scott Community Center in South County. There is a link to sign up, www.aacounty.org/covidvax or you may call 410-222-7256.
Parents may choose which vaccine they would like. The vaccine made by Moderna for 6-month-olds to 5-year-olds is a two-dose series, given four weeks apart. The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for 6-month-olds to 4-year-olds is a three-dose series. The first two shots are given three weeks apart, and the third one eight weeks after the second shot.
