TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Health Ministry asserted that there is no link between COVID-19 vaccination and acute hepatitis of unknown origin that has caused an outbreak recently.
A pediatrician at the RSCM-FKUI hospital Hanifah Oswari said no evidence showing a link between acute hepatitis and COVID-19 thus far. The two diseases, she argued, are only coincidental events.
“So, it is not true that this [acute hepatitis] incident is associated with the COVID-19 vaccination because there is no evidence of such a link,” Hanifah rebutted the issue.
At present, she explained that the Ministry of Health appointed the Sulianti Saroso Infectious Disease Hospital and the Laboratory of the University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Medicine (FKUI) as referred laboratories for examination of acute hepatitis specimens.
The Health Ministry had also issued a Circular Letter of the Health Minister No. HK.02.02/C/2515/2022 concerning precautions for the discovery of acute hepatitis cases of unknown origin.
The government also asked all health workers and health care facilities to exercise prevention and control as well as provide referral hospitals in each district.
