3 Strategies For Getting Your Kids to Eat Healthy


With all the bad choices not only available, but filling the media, it can become quite a task to stay on track and make yourself eat healthy food. The task becomes even more difficult when it comes to making sure your kids eat healthy food as well.

Children are so easily persuaded, and marketers know exactly how to make junk food fun and exciting and irresistible!

But it’s not only the fact that your kids want to eat unhealthy that can make it a challenge. We live in a fast-paced world and way too often substitute healthy for convenient. There are so many options out there that can be whipped up in a matter of minutes, but the truth is that they hold little to no nutritional value for those who consume.

So what’s a parent to do?

Here are three strategies you can follow to improve your family’s eating habits:

1. Eat healthy yourself – Whether they like to admit it or not, you are more than likely your children’s biggest role model. So how can you expect them to eat healthy when you do not? The old saying “Do as I say, not as I do” does not apply here. You must lead by example.

2. Make a variety of healthy foods available – You are the one who stocks the kitchen, right? Kids eat what is available to them. So make sure the snacks you buy include lots of fruits and vegetables, protein and whole grains. Limit snacks that have little nutritional value or excessive fat or sugar content. When you travel with your kids, make it a point to pack healthy snacks as well, to eliminate the need to buy fast food or convenience store snacks.

3. Get your kids involved – Kids love to help! So let them help in preparing snacks and meals and use the time as an opportunity to talk to them about a healthy, balanced diet. The end result will be children who understand how to make healthy food choices on their own!
